R.P. Christman's "Like A Witches Brew"

An inspirational and heartwarming fictional tale depicting a young man abandoned and lost in an unforgiving world until the day he met the person that draws him out of the shadows of the life he was never meant to live.

Travis is a good man, loving husband, and father to his children. Like all good men, he is not without his faults. He lives in his own world defined by his compulsive nature, so it’s not surprising when he meets Malden, the child found abandoned, that he struggles to understand the mysterious nature of his abandonment. Through a series of events surrounded by adversity, shrouded in unexplainable circumstances, Travis grapples to comprehend the illogical situation he finds himself in. In the end, despite the supernatural elements that surround the child, Travis will relinquish the bonds of his compulsive tendencies to protect Malden, and even sacrifice his own existence to save the boy. It won’t be this that defines Travis’ life, but his love for Malden when their two worlds collide in an epic battle against the evil that seeks to destroy the child. ~taken from Amazon

Told in first person perspective, Travis starts out explaining his life and how he got to be where he today, writing this book we are reading. He's a loving husband, father of two daughters, and a man who actually loves his job. He also has OCD and needs things done a certain way. Scheduled days doing the same thing, day in and day out, are what makes him happy.

His life is upended when his path crosses with Malden, a child that seems to have been abandoned. Travis seems to have this pull towards the child and a tug of his heart strings combined with Malden's strange and unique mannerisms quickly suck Travis into the protective father roll while a search for who could have abandoned such a wonderful child.

Malden is quite the mystery, giving no clues into his past or who his family could be. He has a way of just knowing things like where items are in the store he's never worked in, or super complicated math problems given to him during schooling. It starts to make Travis, his wife Gretchen, and other coworkers uneasy. It also drives them to find out who exactly Malden is and where he came from.

This story took an unexpected turn near the end, and I liked the twist it took. Though I found the overall mystery interesting, the end really grabbed hold of me and made me love the story even more. I cannot wait to read the second book!

Thanks to author R.P Christman (and his wife, a friend of mine) for gifting me this ebook to read and give my honest review. It was a intriguing 5 star read with a truly original plot!
