"The Woman In Me" by Britney Spears

The Woman in Me is a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope.

In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history.

Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last. ~taken from Goodreads

For starters, I listened to the audio version read by Michelle Williams. She did an amazing job narrating the words written by Britney Spears. Even though I know what Spears sounds like, Williams did such a great job that at times I forgot that it wasn't Spears herself narrating.

This was honestly a jaw dropping memoir. I had hear snippets of secrets here and there on social media prior to finally getting my hands on the book. I was in so much shock and awe at what Britney Spears has gone through when I finally listened to the words she wrote myself.

I am so angry at the "friends" and family that she was surrounded by for the majority of her life. I am proud of the strong woman she has been and continues to become. The paparazzi involved should go to bed every night and wake up every morning feeling nothing but pure guilt for the decades of abuse she has gone though.

As an elder millennial I am the same age as Britney, and I watched her from her Mickey Mouse Club days to when she became a superstar. I would say I was a fan but not a superfan. I have followed some tabloid stories over the years, tidbits I saw on magazine covers in checkout lines, but never went seeking out tabloid gossip.

I am so glad Spears decided to write this book and share her side of the story. I hope she continues on her journey of self discovery and enjoys her freedom that she so rightfully deserves.

Happy Reading!
